My Chemical Romance score first Billboard 200 No. 1 with 20-year-old The Black Parade

A 20th anniversary reissue in more than 20 physical versions took the 2006 album from No. 139 to No. 1, the longest any album has waited to reach the top.

My Chemical Romance have their first No. 1 album in the United States, 20 years after they released it. The Black Parade climbed from No. 139 to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated 7 November 2026, Billboard reported on 1 November 2026, after a deluxe 20th anniversary reissue.

The album earned 78,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending 29 October 2026, according to Luminate figures published by Billboard. Pure album sales made up 68,000 of that total, and 42,000 of those sales were on vinyl, the band's biggest vinyl week. Streams added 10,000 units, equal to 10.14 million on-demand streams.

The longest wait for a No. 1

When The Black Parade first came out in 2006 it debuted and peaked at No. 2. Billboard says the 20-year wait for it to reach the top is the longest for any album, beating the 15 years and nine months it took Toby Keith's 35 Biggest Hits, which reached No. 1 after his death in 2024. Counted from the band's first chart appearance, with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge on the chart dated 26 June 2004, the wait was 22 years and four months.

The leap from No. 139 is also the largest jump to No. 1 since Taylor Swift's Fearless (Taylor's Version) rose from No. 157 on the chart dated 16 October 2021. Olivia Rodrigo's you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love dropped to No. 2 with 64,000 units.

Variants, vinyl and a tour built on one record

The reissue came in more than 20 physical versions on vinyl, CD and cassette, including signed editions, with bonus tracks on the expanded editions. Billboard combines every version for chart purposes. In Billboard's own analysis of the result, its writers pointed to the band's touring and to what the new edition offered.

That kind of lead-up to an anniversary reissue is incredibly helpful — especially when the new edition doesn’t skimp on the goodies, with fans getting three new songs and three new live renditions.

Kyle Denis, Billboard

The lead-up he meant is the Long Live The Black Parade tour, on which the band has played the album since July 2025, including five nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October 2026. The tour ends in Indonesia on 22 November 2026.

Timing helped too. Billboard's writers noted that the reissue arrived in a week with few major new releases, and that nine of the top 10 albums on the 7 November chart had been on the chart for at least 20 weeks. The Black Parade is the latest reissue to reach the top 10 in 2026, after The Beatles' Rubber Soul, Mac Miller's The Divine Feminine and Beyoncé's B'Day.

What it means for acts

A catalogue album can still top the chart when the reissue gives fans something to own: 68,000 of the 78,000 units were sales, not streams. The pattern here is a tour built around the record, new material on the reissue and a wide spread of physical formats, released in a quiet week. Acts with an anniversary coming up should plan the reissue and the live dates as one campaign, and treat vinyl variants and signed copies as the main event rather than an add-on.
