Lilly Singh returns to YouTube sketch comedy with first major sketch in years
The comedian posted My First Day Back at YouTube on 15 October 2026 and told YouTube's blog she will have proper art and production teams this time.

Lilly Singh has relaunched her sketch comedy on YouTube. On 15 October 2026 she posted "My First Day Back at YouTube", her first major sketch in years, and YouTube's official blog published an interview with her the same day about why she has returned.
By 16 October 2026 the video had been watched more than 319,000 times.
From IISuperwomanII to Hollywood and back
Singh started posting in 2010 as IISuperwomanII from her bedroom in Scarborough, Ontario, and YouTube's blog places her in the first wave of creators to show that online sketch comedy could build a large global following. She went on to a New York Times bestseller and a late-night television show, and worked on productions including Dollface and The Muppets.
The comeback sketch brings back characters for her original fans and has cameos from the creators Alan Chikin Chow and Jeenie Weenie. Singh said the first video had to announce the relaunch and set the tone, and that what follows is "for everyone".
She put the decision down to creative freedom. Over the past few years, she said, she had received many notes that were not about improving a project but about making it "more palatable", "more marketable" or "less niche", and on YouTube there are no gatekeepers asking for that. She said coming back was not about proving Hollywood wrong, and that the past year had been hard on her health; not making videos, she said, had made her feel ill.
Reach, and a bigger team
Reach was the other reason. Her recent feature film, Doin' It, could not be seen by many of her longtime fans in India, the UK and Trinidad and Tobago because of the way traditional distribution deals work, she said, while YouTube gives her distribution across the world.
The way she makes the videos is changing too. For the decade she spent on YouTube she worked mostly with a small, scrappy team; this time she plans to have proper art and production departments, drawing on what she learned on set. She also pointed to Druski as one of a newer generation of creators who expect the industry to come to them.
Success is no longer killing myself with uploads every Monday and Thursday, or burning out chasing a viral video.

What it means for acts
An act that has moved into television or film still owns a channel that reaches fans in every country at once, which a distribution deal limited to some territories may not. Managers weighing an offer against releasing work directly should count that reach alongside the fee. Singh's plan for art and production departments also shows what a return at a higher standard involves: a budget and a team, not one person doing every job.
